This is a very impressive DVD sourced from the master video tape. The filmer shot from the left balcony and kept the camera mostly on Dylan from head-to-toe, although there is a fair amount of zooming and panning to the other players, except to Kemper, who was on the far left and is seldom seen. It's clear, well-focused, mostly steady and unobstructed, with acceptable, if chatty, sound sourced from the videocam-mic.
There are a fair number of clips and cuts, but most of these come between songs, so the performances are relatively unaffected. Unfortunately, only fragments of "Tombstone Blues" and "Blowin' in the Wind" were captured, and "All Along the Watchtower" is completely missing. There seems to be a clip of the first two lines of "Shelter from the Storm," but a check of the audio source confirms that Bob begins with the middle part of the first verse and proceeds to verse 4. The viewer can decide if he did this deliberately or simply muffed it.
Dylan gives a fine vocal performance, particularly on the hard rockers, and the inclusion of songs written by Warren Zevon, Jagger/Richards, and Neil Young makes this a musically-diverse program, indeed, as was typical of the Fall leg of the 2002 U.S. tour.
All-in-all, this is an entertaining program that will be enhanced even more by a sound upgrade.
