This DVD will appeal to those who prefer floor shots, those who like the feeling of "being there," even if that means struggling to see the stage amidst an enthusiastic crowd. Fortunately, the filmer (the peerless Tom P.) does a superb job of keeping the camera steady and focused on the stage in spite of the bodies around and in front of him. His ability is mightily tested during the finale, a wild stage rush reminiscent of the infamous "Stage Diving In Dubuque" video (D045/045.su) and Mankato, MN show (D080). I've always thought that there should be different criteria for rating the "heads" category for balcony and floor shots, and D1022 is a perfect example of why I feel that way. I've given this one a '4' primarily on the strength of the filmer's capturing of the actual scene. While the view of the band is totally obstructed by the end of the show, it represents what viewers would actually have seen from their seats.

This is not to say that there isn't plenty of unobstructed footage here. Particularly in the early part of the show, while the crowd is relatively docile, you'll see mostly knees-up shots of Dylan and Tony with Charlie often slipping in from stage right. Unfortunately, the filmer's position was slightly stage left, so views of Larry are limited and those of David Kemper, the drummer who only lies when he's in bed, are nowhere to be found.

As far as the setlist goes, with the exception of "Not Fade Away" this is an all-acoustic show, with magnificent performances of "Desolation Row," "It's Alright, Ma" and "Mama, You Been On My Mind," the latter graced by a piercing harp solo. Dylan's guitar playing during this period has been criticized in some quarters as being simplistic and monotonous, but I find that it perfectly complements the excellent instrumental backdrop provided by the band.

So, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, here's another 5-star winner.
