This one is special. It's sourced from two master Hi8 tapes provided by our friends Tom P. and raygun, DVD copies of which were the basis for the earlier-released D048 and D048.su. Thus, the video color and resolution are superior to those editions. In addition, this one relies more heavily on Video Source B (left balcony), which is better than Video Source A (right balcony) in terms of color, resolution, and steadiness. There is also much less reliance on the stills, transitions and special effects used to in the production of the earlier editions.
If you were lucky enough to see this performance live, or, if you've seen D048 and/or D048.su, you're already aware of Dylan's dynamic performance and the excellent soundtrack (LB-1468) used for the sound upgrade. This performance was graced with three songs from "Time Out Of Mind" and a stellar acoustic set, notable for Bob's sinus-clearing harmonica break on "Don't Think Twice It's All Right" and the riveting guitar interplay between Bob and Larry on "Tangled Up In Blue." A special treat is Dylan's only U.S. performance of Charles Aznavour's "The Times We've Known." (The only other performance was presented in Paris on April 8, 2009.) This evening in New York City also finds Dylan uncharacteristically talkative, with special shout outs to Aznavour and Garth Brooks, who covered "Make You Feel My Love," and to New York City itself for being the place where "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" was written. The crowd's reaction to the last verse of that song is telling, indeed!
5 Stars, to say the least!
