I SEE YOU'VE GOT YOUR FEATHERED GREY HAT
This is definitely one of the better shows from this topsy-turvy period in Dylan's life. The early nineties seemed to be a tough time in Dylan's career. However, with the terrific performances he put in at the Supper Club in '93, the times certainly did change. There are a few shows from the '91 tour worth watching - this one is not the best one but definitely worth watching. A few general comments first: the concert starts off rather mediocre but gets better and better throughout largely thanks to the great crowd response I believe............
Dylan has often commented about how much he loves being in Italy - oh the streets of Milano!

The opening few numbers give us the impression of: uh-oh! not another D623.su but Bob seems to get more 'into' it as the concert progresses. The real highlights of this concert for me were 1) Gotta Serve Somebody (nice rollicking new riff and feel to this song) 2) One too many mornings (subdued, understated, lovely), 3) Wiggle Wiggle (never liked this song on record - sounds much better live!) and 4) Man in the Long Black Coat (which shows just how good a record "Oh Mercy" truly was!). Numbers like Highway 61, LARS and Maggie's Farm are good but not exceptional and All Along the Watchtower always sounds the same....

Bob walks over to the piano at a few places during the concert but you can hardly hear him because the backing band (all fantastic musicians by the way!) drown him out. Although Bob seems relatively upbeat (progressively so throughout the concert) he just doesn't seem that 'into it' and unfortunately this negatively rubs off on some of the other members of the band who perform well but also just seem to be 'going through the motions' (like a soundcheck).

All in all a pretty good concert - definitely one of the best from this period (much better than the lackluster D623.su) but nowhere near as good as the spectacular Offenbach concert that he would perform 11 days after this one. (See D587.su). If you don't already have D587.su, get it straight away (if you like this period in Dylan's career) and then I recommend viewing this one next. A solid three stars! I would give it 3.5 actually if that were possible..........

Big thank-you to taaa for this one!
