COOPS2009 NOTES FOR MS-183:
An extremely steady view of this show, In recent years 2002 has shown itself to be one of Bobs better years for me. This is a very easy concert to sit back and enjoy. Remember even if you have some of the Daves films already that at best your copies will be 2 generations poorer than anything in the Masters series, so get em all. These will be with original sound though many will feature as sound upgrades eventually with my two mates Yassou and Madhasse helping out.

(73min+36min), from same unnamed taper as 11-15-03 Wembley (78min+42min) and others from that tour; excellent sound; (this is a different recording than the aborted firewalled bittorrent); digi-static d1t9 3:35 to 3:37 on right channel; mic noise d1t12 0:40

BOB DYLAN
Metro Radio Arena
Newcastle, England, UK
June 22, 2004
DVDylan ID #458.msu
Masters Series 183.msu

2-5/5/5-/5-/4+
5-14/14/13/13/12 (avg. 13.00 A-)
Right balcony 50˙
1:45:41:20

DIFFERENCES & IMPROVEMENTS TO D458.m:
-sound upgraded
-filled obstructed song 1, off-target parts & cuts with stills
-different title & track menus

PERFORMANCE/HIGHLIGHTS/SPECIAL MOMENTS:
-nice variety of songs & powerful vocals
-Kimball more involved on lead guitar than usual w/Campbell handling other
instruments; very tasty leads on “Cold Irons Bound” and “Like A Rolling
Stone”
-wicked start with “Seeing The Real You At Last”
-particularly great vocal on “Lonesome Day Blues”
-poignant “Ring Them Bells” with a harp solo and Campbell on pedal steel;
Dylan repeats the St. Catherine verse
-plaintive take on “The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll”
-cool instrumental break on “Honest With Me”
-a very melodic “If Not For You” despite Dylan starting the harmonica solo
with a harp in the wrong key

DISTANCE/POSITION: 5-11 right balcony 50˙ (right balcony position focused squarely on Dylan up to waist-up with zoom outs to show others; panning limited, but Kimball often seen; others occasionally seen, but partly blocked by speaker stack on stage right)

AUDIO: 14 (excellent LB-5251 recording; a bit of an echo)

STEADINESS: 13 (shaky at start, but mostly stabilized thereafter)

HEADS/OBSTRUCTIONS: 13 (body on left occasionally intrudes; speaker stack on stage right obstructs on zoom outs; filmer adroitly zooms out when obstructions linger)

FOCUS: 12 (good color; rather grainy probably due to distance and light factors; focus goes out occasionally due to obstructions)

EDITING: filled cuts with stills (see setlist details)
