As the others point out, it is one of the best
audience shot releases one has to hunt down
Not to miss, and 1998 was a magic year!!

Expertly shot audience video, very steady, nice panning, very few obstructions, this is terrific camera work, I don't think it gets much better than this.

Visually pleasing and fully functional authoring including subtitles. Top notch sound upgrade, seamlessly syncronized to the video.

Audio is probably the best available, but a bit boomy compared to the best recordings from 1998, so it goes in big barns like this.

These recordings find Dylan (comparably) chatty, offering a few words beyond the usual "Thanks everybody" between several songs. There are plenty of strong performances throughout this show, and a choice set list to boot--favorites included Tomorrow is a Long Time, Every Grain of Sand, Tom Thumbs, Masters... Dylan really nails the Lightfoot cover despite noting that "He's probably not here tonight" in introducing the song, a choice performance which has been ringing in my ears since I first viewed this DVD. I love to hear Bob cover songs (and DJ on the radio), it gives us insight into the inspirations and aspirations of the best songwriter of them all.

The influx of 5 star sound upgraded DVDs to this community is amazing, and I'm (we're?) deeply indebted to the several authors responsible for them. Not only do they do this wonderful work, but they show themselves to be committed to the sharing and circulation of their efforts.

5 Stars, excellent fan made soundupgraded DVD video-
Thanks to everyone involved in this one, and Mr. D too!

This excellent sound upgrade deserves 5 stars for performance by both artists - Dylan and the sound upgrader/DVD author. Wonderful setlist, riveting performances, Dylan in good spirits playing to the crowd. The masterful work by the author/sound upgrader deserves a badge of honor for skill and perseverance, as anyone who has ever tried their hand at sound synching will readily attest. This is also one of the most clearly focused amateur-shot videos I have ever seen, which makes me question why it has received only 4 out of 5 stars for focus/light/color; show me a better one and I'll give it a 6! The only shortcoming I can hear is that Dylan's microphone seems to have an auditorium echo making the sound B+ at best. Or, is it just my jaded ears?

Perhaps what this wonderful addition to our catalogue best represents is the degree to which we're getting spoiled by the torrent of high quality projects that now grace this one-of-a-kind website.

Thanks, V!

DISC D116.su
SOUND Very good audience tape
IMAGE For detail, see review of D116, but basically fine.
RUNNING TIME Like all the best audience films, this one starts with those familiar words Good evening, ladies and gentlemen... A brief but fun-filled 97 minutes later, we're through.
PERFORMANCE After recently watching D592.su (Dublin '89) in which D sounds okay but looks an absolute fright, it's something of a jolt to be presented here with Mr Sobersides - bare head, tidy hair, dark suit, tie tucked neatly into his shirt, the only concession to showbiz frivolity a discreet white stripe down each pants leg. But this, of course, counts for nothing and Bob and the band do their audience (then and now) proud with a peach of a show; a gig to remember. Watch his facial expressions and body language as he plays to the crowd, milking the moment during It Ain't Me, Babe and you'll see how pleased he is with this night's work - as well he might be, for it's up there with the best.
HIGHLIGHTS (1) A gorgeous Tomorrow Is A Long Time (2) Every Grain (3) Me Babe to close
COMMENT In recent months us lucky fans have enjoyed a relative torrent of sound-upgraded shows. Though none disappoint, we should be especially thankful for this one. Why? Because making it was a pig of a job, with its creator having to sync audio and video tapes running at constantly fluctuating speed - a thankless task few would have had the patience to see through at all, much less as skilfully as this. Authoring, too, is beautifully done. D116 was passably good - D116.su, a true labour of love, is something else again.
