DVDylan ID: D027.msu
Recording type: Audience
City/Venue: Newcastle, England, St. James Park
Date: Thursday, 5th July 1984

NB: Rating is based on both technical quality and quailty of performance, the latter of which is terrific.

DIFFERENCES & IMPROVEMENTS OVER PREVIOUS EDITIONS:
-sound upgraded master video files
-filled clipped/cut parts of previous editions with stills and audio
-richer color and better light

PERFORMANCE/HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS/SPECIAL MOMENTS:
-extremely enthusiastic crowd
-lengthy and varied setlist
-energized Dylan performance with lots of BobTalk (see below) and lyric changes:
-appearance by Carlos Santana on final five songs
-excellent guitar work by Mick Taylor
-bemused look on Mick's face as Dylan blew harp during "Blowin In The Wind"

BOB TALK (from Olaf's Yearly Chronicles)
*Thank you. Somebody just got knocked right out of their socks. I must say this is the first English speaking audience we've played for now for quite a while. It sure is pleasant to do. (before "Maggie's Farm")
*Thank you! I realize I changed some of the lyrics on that last song. I think it's still recognizable though. (after "Simple Twist Of Fate")
*Ladies and gentlemen you've been a very kind and wonderful group of people. I wanna introduce the band to you now. On keyboards, Ian McLagan. On the bass guitar, Greg Sutton. On the drums, Colin Allen. On guitar, Mick Taylor. (at the end of "Like A Rolling Stone")

DISTANCE/POSITION: 11 (left floor 10˙ mostly on Dylan with panning to other players) (Filmer did a great job keeping focus on stage despite being in the middle of a rowdy crowd; effective panning to guitarists during solos)

AUDIO: 12 (a bit on the tinny side; mostly used audio extracted from D027.asu, which is the same as LB-5390; unfortunately LB-5390 and the MK audio ran faster than the video, hence the need for the extracted audio; the MK audio was used for clipped audio on "Every Grain Of Sand" missing on the extracted audio and LB-5390)

STEADINESS: 10 (filmer did an admirable job working in a rowdy crowd)

HEADS/OBSTRUCTIONS: 10 (shot between crowd and mostly on-target)

FOCUS/COLOR/LIGHT: 13 (excellent color and light; sharpness quite good for a tape transfer)

EDITING: most songs were cut at the beginning and end requiring the use of stills and audio from LB-5390 and the MK audio; several missing songs filled with stills (see setlist details)

Special thanks for the video to THE TWO DAVES & COOPS2009.

This one will not be appearing on DIME as it contains a few tracks they are unhappy about
tracks that were released on the "Real Live" album (not this recording of course!) (“License to Kill” and “Tombstone Blues”)
Wembley will follow for the same reasons.

Many of you knew Dave Dingle and know he died earlier this year. I am pleased to say that his video archive has passed to me with the express plan of preserving things the same way as before. Everything transferred direct from master to PC to you. Pass it on, we lost Dave but the videos we can preserve. I will be crediting all his stuff as "The Two Daves".

Remember even if you have some of the Daves films already that at best your copies will be 2 generations poorer than anything in the Masters series, so get em all. These will be with original sound though many will feature as sound upgrades with my two mates Yassou and Madhasse helpinng out.
so courtesy of The Two Daves
Enjoy
